September manufacturing PMI returns above 50: check order evidence before cargo release
The latest manufacturing survey provides a fresh signal about activity in China. Buyers preparing shipments should use it as context while checking the actual goods, documents and handover requirements for each order.
September 30 release: official manufacturing PMI reaches 50.1
Reuters reported on September 30 that China's official manufacturing purchasing managers' index rose from 49.8 in August to 50.1 in September, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. The reading moved above the 50-point expansion threshold after two months below it. This is a survey indicator, not a percentage increase in factory output.
Buyer analysis: check the order behind the economic signal
A reading above 50 does not establish that a particular supplier has completed your goods or reserved capacity. Ask for the latest verified quantity, specification revision, inspection status and remaining work. Keep purchase decisions tied to the order record rather than interpreting the survey as a delivery promise.
Where a production date changed, confirm whether inspection, packing and document preparation have also moved. Assign an owner and evidence requirement to each unresolved task before treating the shipment as ready.
Shipping action: reconcile the documents with the packed cargo
Compare the invoice, packing list and shipping instructions against the final packed quantities. Confirm that carton counts, units of measure and gross versus net weights are being compared on the same basis. A mismatch may be a draft error, a partial shipment or a physical shortage; establish which before approving corrections.
Ask the responsible forwarder or broker which documents and approvals are needed at the current stage, and obtain the applicable cut-offs. Correcting a local spreadsheet does not establish that a previously submitted record has been amended or accepted. Today's guide includes a quantity-mismatch example and an amendment checklist.
