China reports 4.5% third-quarter growth: verify order progress beyond the headline
New third-quarter economic data provides context for China sourcing. Buyers still need order-level evidence to confirm whether production, inspection and shipment arrangements are on track.
October 19 results: growth accelerated in the third quarter
Reuters reported on October 19 that China’s economy expanded 4.5% year on year in the third quarter, compared with 4.3% in the second quarter and a 4.4% survey forecast. These figures describe July–September economic output, not the delivery performance of an individual supplier.
Buyer analysis: use separate production and shipment milestones
Ask the supplier to distinguish materials available, units in production, finished units, inspected units and units released for dispatch. Attach dates and evidence to each status rather than relying on one overall completion percentage.
A strong national growth figure cannot demonstrate that your supplier has the necessary materials, available production capacity or a confirmed sailing. Keep those questions in the purchase-order review.
Check the handover before confirming delivery
Reconcile the released quantity with the packing list and booking. Ask the responsible provider to confirm collection, document deadlines and the next transport milestone. Record estimates separately from completed events.
Illustrative example: 500 units are finished but only 300 have passed the agreed inspection. Treat the 300 as inspected and the remaining 200 as pending; do not book or promise delivery on the assumption that every finished unit is released. Any split shipment should have an agreed quantity and cost scope.
