YIWU MARKET
Yiwu Market Buying Guide for Overseas Importers
Plan a productive Yiwu market buying trip: prepare specifications, compare booths, verify suppliers, control samples and orders, consolidate goods and ship.
Prepare before the trip
Define product categories, target quality, quantities, budget, destination requirements and delivery deadline. Bring reference photos, specifications, packaging artwork and a structured quotation sheet. Group priorities so time is spent on the most valuable districts and suppliers.
Record every booth consistently
For each candidate, record the booth number, Chinese company name, contact, product code, material, MOQ, price basis, sample terms, lead time, packaging, domestic delivery and export capability. Photograph the product and booth identifier together when permitted.
Compare like with like
Two similar-looking products may use different materials, thicknesses, components or packaging. Normalise specifications before comparing price. Ask whether the quotation is tax-inclusive, where delivery occurs and how long the price remains valid.
Verify before deposit
A booth is a sales location, not proof of factory ownership. Verify the contracting company, business status, beneficiary and relationship to production. Decide whether buying through a trader is acceptable based on accountability and value added.
Control samples and orders
Label samples with supplier, date and specification. If a sample becomes the approval standard, identify it in the contract and keep a controlled reference. Use written POs or contracts with product details, packaging, schedule, inspection and defect-handling terms.
Plan China-side execution
After the trip, suppliers need follow-up, production tracking, receiving instructions, quality control and payment control. For multiple suppliers, use one warehouse register and consistent carton marks. Resolve shortages and failed inspections before consolidation and loading.
Budget beyond product price
Include market assistance, sourcing or buying fees, samples, domestic delivery, inspection, storage, repacking, export documents, international freight and destination costs. Ask for fee disclosure before work starts.
Turn the trip into a decision file
A good Yiwu trip ends with more than contacts. It produces comparable quotations, verified entities, controlled samples, written terms and a clear execution plan that can still be followed after the buyer leaves China.
